Yeniköy Kemerköy Energy Electricity Generation and Trade A.Sh. (YK Energy) has signed an agreement with the Turkish Nature Protection Association (TTKD) to monitor and report to the public the recovery works of the mine site it plans to carry out on the 600-hectare area where mining operations have been completed. The Association will monitor the rehabilitation and afforestation works of the mine site with full authority and report the developments to the public periodically.    

Yeniköy Kemerköy Energy Electricity Generation and Trade A.Sh. (YK Energy) has started working to rehabilitate the closed mine site in Milas district of Muğla and restore it to nature. YK Enerji has signed an agreement with the TTKD, which has signed many environmental projects abroad and domestically since 1955, to monitor and report on the mine site rehabilitation planned to be carried out on an area of 600 hectares with full authority.  TTKD experts will follow the scientific nature of the studies, their suitability for the region, and the topics as the calendar is maintained as determined. The recovery works will be carried out around the agricultural development goals in accordance with the climate and vegetation structure of the region and in line with the expectations of the local people.

“The work we do will be traceable and accessible”
Stating that as YK Energy, they have taken the first step of a study to be carried out within the scope of sustainability goals, YK Energy Sustainability and Corporate Communications Deputy General Manager Burak Işık said, “We know that we have a long process ahead of us these days when we have just taken over the task. In order to take the right steps in this process and fulfill our responsibilities consciously, we will benefit from the 70-year experience of the TCCD. Within the scope of our agreement, the TTKD will monitor, guide us and share developments with the public as an independent institution,”he concluded, “The work we do will be traceable and accessible. With this understanding, we are conducting transparent and open communication with all our stakeholders, especially the local people, and we will continue to do so.”  

TTDK Scientific Committee will monitor the project and direct YK Energy
Stating that TTKD has signed many projects in order to protect and develop both the fauna and flora of our country since the day it was founded, TTKD Association President Ali Rıza Koç said, “Our scientific committee will be the follower and director of the project to restore the mining areas to nature to be carried out by YK Energy. Our experts will follow the scientific nature of the studies, their suitability for the region, and the topics as the calendar is maintained as determined. As the association, we will periodically announce the work to the public with a transparent report." said.

 


The recovery project is entrusted to the experts of the work
Assoc. who participated in the landscape planning and repair works, signing ceremony. Dr. Sultan GÜNDÜZ and his team will conduct. Assoc. stating that they look at planning and repair works within the framework of reflecting the principles of integrity, functionality, continuity and inclusiveness into practice. Dr. Sultan GÜNDÜZ stated that the studies they carried out were carried out on the basis of the ecosystem of the old mining sites located in the areas of responsibility of YK Energy.

The first work begins at the Husamlar mine site
within the scope of the rehabilitation project, which will consist of various phases in 2023 and 2024, work is being started with the Hüsamlar mining area for the first time. In the next phases, Kemerköy TS Ash Storage Facility, Yeniköy TS Closed Curuf Field, Kemerköy TS Treatment Facility environment and Purenlitepe Pond will be rehabilitated.
